Taxis and a community transit shuttle (less than $5) provide convenient access to other areas of Santa Monica. For sightseeing in the rest of LA, a rental car is the best option. What to expect: Walking through the front door is a trip to France’s Cote d’Azur. This property is filled with sunlit terraces that cascade down to the pool and spa, and overlook sand and sea. Refined business and leisure guests sip glasses of wine and enjoy fine cigars (only outside, of course). Amenity highlights: The sunny terraces—some separated by steps or walkways—allow for indoor/outdoor dining and drinking, and are served by two adjacent bars (one with fine wines and a cigar menu) and the upscale restaurant. The lovely spa offers a full menu of facial, body, and massage treatments in private rooms, while the fitness center and outdoor pool provide less sedentary pleasures. Insider tip: Guests wrapped in the hotel’s terry robes after swimming or being pampered in the spa can get back to their rooms without parading through public areas. Take the interior elevator from the pool and spa area directly to guest floors. Those who prefer parading can take the outside elevator to the registration area.
